Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, Risks, Pitfalls and Mitigation

This presentation provides an introduction to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. We will discuss the risks the Act creates for an organization and the consequences of falling afoul of the Act, some of the significant recent fines and judgments incurred, and strategies that can be implemented to prevent problems from arising and the best way to handle investigations.
The Convergence of Cyber and Economic Frauds

The line between fraud classifications is blurring and the implications for fraud examiners can be significant. This presentation looks at the growing impact of cyber crime in all areas of fraud examination and risk management. Presented from the perspective of a seasoned CFE and expert witness, this session also discusses the convergence of the face of identity theft and cyber fraud and the resulting complications that can occur during a fraud examination. Also addressed are business and employer liability issues that can result from these frauds
Unclaimed Property — What Every Fraud Examiner Needs to Know!

Unclaimed property laws were enacted over 50 years ago, yet even large corporations fail to recognize and properly comply with these laws. This session will provide the basics and background on the purpose and requirements of the unclaimed property laws, the greatest potential areas of risk for a company (in particular fraud and/or embezzlement of funds), and the enforcement efforts being utilized to ensure compliance with these laws.
Developing an Anti-Fraud Framework
Tuesday 3:30 - 4:50 p.m. / Wednesday 8:30 - 9:50 a.m.
This session addresses the four cornerstones of an effective anti-fraud program. These cornerstones are: governance (the effective top-down oversight and direction which establishes the proper “tone at the top”), policies and procedures (the board-approved policies related to fraud prevention and detection), training (fraud awareness training throughout the organization) and independent testing/validations (periodic testing and validation of fraud systems and capabilities).
Leveraging SOX to Build Enterprise Risk Management (ERM)
Wednesday 10:10 - 11:30 a.m.
This session discusses leveraging Sarbanes-Oxley in order to develop an integrated ERM apporach that includes the full spectrum of risks: strategic, operational (including fraud), financial reporting and compliance. Also to be addressed is the support documentation needed for an integrated risk-based approach, including: SEC, PCAOB, COSO, and ERM Framework. At the conclusion of this session you
should be able to make a convincing case for developing and implementing an integrated approach to risk management by incorporating key elements of fraud risk, risk management, SOX and ERM.
