Identity Crime: Don’t Become a Victim

Combating identity fraud is an issue that increasingly dominates the agenda of government and industry. Sergeant Mills will discuss the true nature of identity crime, the total cost and impact of identity fraud, as well as current fraud trends, which will assist practitioners and researchers in better understanding the impact of this type of crime. We’ll analyze several case studies, including a fascinating case study of a fraudster who took over the identities of at least 15 different people. The fraudster explains how he obtained personal documents, created false identity documents, how he purchased goods and how he used fraudulent cheques.

Establishing a Fraud Awareness & Ethics Training Program

A crucial component of any anti-fraud program is recruiting and educating key employees to recognize and report indicators of fraud. This session will familiarize the audience with the components of a successful and focused fraud awareness and procurement ethics training program including the goals: to increase awareness, why it is important, major benefits, key components, identification of entity-specific risks, real world examples and indicators, and common program pitfalls and how to overcome them.
Vendor Due Diligence Programs — An Overview

Organizations are beginning to recognize that comprehensive fraud prevention and mitigation plans start with a consistent, auditable method of evaluating, monitoring and reviewing those organizations who have access to your facilities, assets, staff and customers. Recent events highlight the need for programs to reduce the risks associated with outside suppliers and service providers.
This session will discuss best practices based on real experience across multiple industries. In addition, attendees will discuss risk, penalties, examples of programs within many industries and steps to create a comprehensive program that evaluates the risks associated with vendor management.
Fraud Prevention In An Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Environment

Enterprise Risk Management is a new and evolving practice of numerous audit organizations throughout the world. In this presentation, we will examine how fraud prevention fits into the ERM model. Common practices, challenges to execution and lessons learned will be described to create a successful fraud prevention environment. The ERM model differs from the traditional audit model because it assists the organization in achieving its business objectives by systematically identifying and evaluating significant exposures to risk, developing solutions to key risks, and contributing to the overall improvement of risk management, business processes, internal controls and governance in the enterprise.
Suspicious Activity Reporting (SARs): A Plan for Compliance

This presentation will introduce attendees to basic regulatory requirements related to suspicious activity reporting as required by the Bank Secrecy Act. Attendees will understand fraud risk from a financial institution’s perspective, get an overview of the laws and regulations and basic SAR reporting requirements and filing triggers, pointers for establishing an effective compliance program and risks of what happens if the bank’s program fails.
